Stacked Discount Calculator (20% Off Plus 10% Off) by TheCalcTools
How the Stacked Discount Calculator (20% Off Plus 10% Off) works
Stacked discounts multiply, they do not add: 20% off then 10% off leaves 80% × 90% = 72% of the price, a 28% total discount, not 30%.
The order does not matter for percentages, but fixed-amount coupons are worth more when applied before percentage discounts.
The formula
Final = price × (1 − d₁)(1 − d₂)(1 − d₃)
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Original price | $80 |
|---|---|
| First discount | 20 % |
| Second discount | 10 % |
| Third discount (0 if none) | 0 % |
| Sales tax after discounts | 0 % |
- 80 with 20% then 10% off: $57.60.
- That is a 28.00% discount, saving $22.40.
Result:
| Final price | $57.60 |
|---|---|
| With tax | $57.60 |
| True total discount | 28.00% |
| You save | $22.40 |
| Not the same as adding the percentages | 30% added up vs 28.00% actual |
