How the Ramadan and Eid Date Calculator works

Dates come from the Umm al-Qura calendar, the official calendar of Saudi Arabia, which fixes month starts in advance. The first fast of Ramadan is on 1 Ramadan; the evening before is the first night of taraweeh.

In many countries the month begins after the crescent moon is sighted, which can be a day or two later. Use the adjustment to match your local announcement. All dates are expected dates until confirmed.

The formula

Next date = first Umm al-Qura date on or after today for the given Hijri month and day, plus your local adjustment

When does Ramadan 2027 start?

In the Umm al-Qura calendar, 1 Ramadan 1448 falls on 8 February 2027. In countries that rely on local moon sighting it may begin on 9 February. Set the date above to see this.

Why does Ramadan come earlier every year?

The Islamic year is about 354 days, about 11 days shorter than the solar year, so Ramadan moves through all seasons over roughly 33 years.
