How the Hijri Date Converter (Gregorian to Islamic and Back) works
The Umm al-Qura calendar is the official calendar of Saudi Arabia, computed in advance from astronomical data. This converter uses its published month starts from 1365 to 1500 AH (1945 to 2077). Outside that range, or if you choose it, the tabular Islamic calendar is used: a fixed arithmetic cycle of 30 years with 11 leap years.
Many countries start months by local moon sighting, which can be one or two days after the calculated date. Pakistan and India are often one day later than Saudi Arabia, so use the adjustment to match your local calendar.
Gregorian dates use the proleptic Gregorian calendar. Days are counted from midnight; the Islamic day traditionally begins at sunset the evening before.
