How the Travel Budget Calculator (Trip Cost per Person) works
A trip of N nights has N + 1 travel days, and daily costs like food are counted for each day. Accommodation is counted per night for the whole group, so sharing a room lowers the cost per person.
A contingency buffer of 10% to 15% covers price changes, tips, fees and small emergencies. Exchange-rate moves and card fees can add more abroad.

How much should I budget per day?
It depends heavily on the destination. Research local hotel, meal and transport prices and enter them here; costs in major Western cities can be several times those in South or Southeast Asia.
Should I include the buffer?
Yes. Most trips cost more than planned. If you do not spend it, you come home with savings.
