How the Time Duration Calculator (Between Two Dates and Times) works

The calculator converts both moments to minutes and subtracts. Times use the 24-hour clock; 22:15 is 10:15 PM.

Daylight-saving changes are not applied: if the clocks change between the two times, add or subtract that hour.

The formula

Duration = (end date − start date) × 1,440 + end minutes − start minutes

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate hours between two times on the same day?

Use the same date for start and end. For a night shift that ends the next morning, set the end date one day later.
