    How the Scientific Calculator works

Type a full expression such as 2(3+4)^2 or sin(30)+ln(10), or tap the keys. A preview of the answer appears as you type; press = or Enter to calculate it and add it to the history. Tap a history line to reuse it.

The calculator follows standard order of operations: brackets, powers and roots, multiplication and division (including implied multiplication like 2π), then addition and subtraction. Powers are right-associative, so 2^3^2 is 2^9, and −2^2 is −4.

Use the deg/rad key to switch the angle unit for sin, cos and tan. The 2nd key swaps in the inverse functions (sin⁻¹, cos⁻¹, tan⁻¹), eˣ, 10ˣ, the cube root and x³. Ans inserts the previous result, EXP enters powers of ten (2E6 = 2,000,000) and % divides by 100.

    The formula

    Order of operations: ( ) → ^ √ ! → × ÷ → + −n! is defined for whole numbers up to 170; larger values overflow to Infinity.

    Worked example

    Typing 2(3+4)^2 − sqrt(16) gives 2 × 49 − 4 = 94. In degree mode, sin(30)+cos(60) = 1, and 5!/3! = 20.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a percentage of a number?

Type 15%*80 (or 80*15%) to get 12. The % sign divides the number before it by 100.

Why does sin(30) give 0.5 here but −0.988 on another calculator?

The other calculator is in radians. This calculator starts in degrees; tap deg to switch to radians.

    Is my input sent anywhere?

No. Every calculation runs in your browser.
