How the Gold Zakat Calculator (Tola, Grams and Karat) works
Gold is valued by its pure gold content: weight multiplied by karat ÷ 24. One tola is 11.6638 grams, and the gold nisab is 7.5 tola (87.48 g) of pure gold.
If your gold alone reaches the nisab, or your gold plus other savings reach the nisab value, Zakat of 2.5% is due on the total after a lunar year. Use the price you would get when selling, or the published daily 24K rate.
The formula
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Weight of gold | 10 |
|---|---|
| Weight unit | Tola (11.664 g) |
| Purity | 22 karat (91.7%) |
| Today's price of 24K gold per tola | $400000 |
| Other zakatable wealth (cash, savings) | $0 |
- 10 tola × 11.664 = 116.64 g of 22K gold = 106.92 g pure.
- Value: 106.92 ÷ 11.664 × 400,000 = $3,666,667.
- Zakat = 2.5% × $3,666,667 = $91,666.67.
Result:
| Zakat due on your gold and savings | $91,666.67 |
|---|---|
| Value of your gold | $3,666,666.67 |
| Pure gold content (grams) | 106.92 |
| Weight in grams | 116.64 |
| Weight in tola | 10.000 |
| Gold nisab value (87.48 g) | $3,000,050.46 |
