Pizza Size Comparison Calculator by TheCalcTools

How the Pizza Size Comparison Calculator works

Enter the diameter and price of two pizzas.

Area is π times the radius squared, so it grows with the square of the diameter.

Price divided by area gives the cost per square inch.

The formula

Area = π × (diameter ÷ 2)²Cost per sq in = price ÷ area

Worked example

Using the default values shown in the calculator:

Pizza A diameter (in)12
Pizza A price$11
Pizza B diameter (in)16
Pizza B price$17
  1. A: π × 6² = 113.1 sq in, costing $0.10 per sq in.
  2. B: π × 8² = 201.1 sq in, $0.08 per sq in. Better value: Pizza B.

Result:

Pizza A area (sq in)113.1
Pizza B area (sq in)201.1
Pizza A cost per sq in$0.10
Pizza B cost per sq in$0.08
Better valuePizza B

Frequently asked questions

Why does a bigger pizza cost less per slice?

Area grows with the square of the diameter, but the price usually rises more slowly.

Does crust thickness matter?

Yes. This tool compares surface area only, so thick-crust or deep-dish pizzas may deliver more food than their area suggests.
