Pomodoro Calculator (Sessions, Breaks and Finish Time) by TheCalcTools

How the Pomodoro Calculator (Sessions, Breaks and Finish Time) works

The Pomodoro Technique, created by Francesco Cirillo, alternates focused work blocks (classically 25 minutes) with short breaks, and a longer break after every four blocks.

The number of blocks is the focus goal divided by the block length, rounded up. There is no break after the last block.

The formula

Blocks = ⌈goal ÷ block length⌉; long breaks = ⌊(blocks − 1) ÷ N⌋

Worked example

Using the default values shown in the calculator:

Focus time you want180 min
Focus block length25 min
Short break5 min
Long break20 min
Long break after every4 blocks
Start time09:00
  1. 3 hours of focus = 8 blocks of 25 minutes with 50 min (6 short, 1 long) of breaks.
  2. Starting at 9:00 AM you finish at 1:10 PM.

Result:

Focus blocks8
Break time50 min (6 short, 1 long)
Total session length250
Finish time1:10 PM

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to use 25 minutes?

No. Many people prefer 45 or 50-minute blocks with 10-minute breaks for deep work. Adjust to what keeps you focused.
