How the Lottery Number Generator (Quick Pick) works

Each line draws distinct numbers without replacement from 1 to n using a fair shuffle, then sorts them. Bonus balls (such as a Powerball or Lucky Star) are drawn from their own range.

Every combination is equally likely, so random numbers win as often as birthdays or patterns. Random picks do reduce the chance of sharing a jackpot with people who chose popular numbers.

The formula

Odds = C(n, k) × C(bonus range, bonus count)

Worked example

A 6-from-49 game has C(49, 6) = 13,983,816 possible lines, so each line has a 1 in 13,983,816 chance of the jackpot.
