Turkey Roasting Time Calculator by TheCalcTools

How the Turkey Roasting Time Calculator works

Enter the weight of the turkey and your minutes-per-pound figure (about 13 minutes per lb at 180 °C / 350 °F for an unstuffed bird is a common rule of thumb).

The calculator multiplies weight by minutes per pound.

Add resting time before carving.

The formula

roasting time = weight (lb) × minutes per lb

Worked example

Using the default values shown in the calculator:

Turkey weight6
UnitKilograms
Minutes per lb13
Resting time (min)30
  1. 6 kg = 13.2 lb.
  2. 13.2 lb × 13 min = 2h 52m.
  3. With 30 minutes of resting the total is 3h 22m. Confirm doneness at 74 °C / 165 °F.

Result:

Weight (lb)13.2
Roasting time2h 52m
Roasting plus resting3h 22m
Safe internal temperature74 °C / 165 °F

Frequently asked questions

How do I know it is cooked?

Use a food thermometer. The thickest part of the thigh and breast should reach 74 °C (165 °F). Do not rely on time alone.

Does stuffing change the time?

Yes, a stuffed bird takes longer, and the stuffing itself must also reach 74 °C (165 °F). Cooking stuffing separately is simpler.
