Vertical Jump Power Calculator (Sayers Equation) by TheCalcTools

How the Vertical Jump Power Calculator (Sayers Equation) works

Sayers and colleagues measured jump height, body mass and peak power with a force plate in a large group of athletes and fitted a regression equation. It estimates peak power from a countermovement jump.

Use the best of three jumps from a standing start, measured with a jump mat, app or wall reach. The equation is an estimate with an error of a few hundred watts.

The formula

Peak power (W) = 60.7 × jump height (cm) + 45.3 × body mass (kg) − 2055

Worked example

Using the default values shown in the calculator:

Vertical jump height50
Body weight75
  1. 60.7 × 50 + 45.3 × 75 − 2055 = 4,378 W.
  2. That is 58.4 W per kg.

Result:

Peak power (Sayers)4,378
Peak power per kg58.4
Jump height in inches19.7

Frequently asked questions

What is a good vertical jump?
