DOTS Score Calculator (Powerlifting) by TheCalcTools

How the DOTS Score Calculator (Powerlifting) works

DOTS divides 500 by a fourth-degree polynomial of bodyweight and multiplies by your total, so lifters of different sizes can be compared. It is used by many federations and meet results databases.

Bodyweight is limited to 40–210 kg for men and 40–150 kg for women in the formula, as in the published implementation. Totals are in kilograms; switch the unit menu if you lift in pounds.

The formula

DOTS = total × 500 ÷ (A + B·bw + C·bw² + D·bw³ + E·bw⁴)Men: A −307.75076, B 24.0900756, C −0.1918759221, D 0.0007391293, E −0.000001093. Women: A −57.96288, B 13.6175032, C −0.1126655495, D 0.0005158568, E −0.0000010706.

Worked example

Using the default values shown in the calculator:

SexMale
Bodyweight83
Best squat200
Best bench press130
Best deadlift240
  1. Total: 200 + 130 + 240 = 570 kg at 83 kg bodyweight.
  2. DOTS coefficient 0.6751, so DOTS = 570 × 0.6751 = 384.80.

Result:

DOTS score384.80
Total570.0
Total ÷ bodyweight6.87
DOTS coefficient0.6751

Frequently asked questions

What is a good DOTS score?

Roughly, 300 is a solid amateur level, 400 is strong at national level and 500+ is world class, but standards differ between equipped and raw lifting.

DOTS, Wilks or IPF GL?

They are different formulas fitted to different data. The IPF uses its own GL points; many other federations and rankings use DOTS. Compare scores only within the same formula.
