Triangular Prism Calculator (Volume and Surface Area) by TheCalcTools
How the Triangular Prism Calculator (Volume and Surface Area) works
The volume of any prism is the area of its end times its length. The triangle’s area comes from Heron’s formula using its three sides.
The surface area is the two triangular ends plus three rectangles, one for each side of the triangle.
The formula
V = A × L, A = √(s(s − a)(s − b)(s − c)); SA = 2A + (a + b + c)L
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Triangle side a | 3 |
|---|---|
| Triangle side b | 4 |
| Triangle side c | 5 |
| Prism length | 10 |
- A 3-4-5 triangle prism 10 long has volume 60.0000 and surface area 132.0000.
Result:
| Volume | 60.0000 |
|---|---|
| Total surface area | 132.0000 |
| Area of each triangular end | 6.0000 |
| Lateral area (three rectangles) | 120.0000 |
