How the Cylinder Volume Calculator works
Enter the radius and the height in the same unit.
Volume is the base area πr² times the height.
Total surface area adds the two circular ends to the curved side.
The formula
V = πr²hLateral area = 2πrh
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Radius (r) | 4 |
|---|---|
| Height (h) | 10 |
- Base area = π × 4² = 50.27, so volume = 50.27 × 10 = 502.65.
- Lateral area = 2 × π × 4 × 10 = 251.33.
- Total area = 351.86.
Result:
| Volume | 502.6548 |
|---|---|
| Lateral surface area | 251.3274 |
| Total surface area | 351.8584 |
Frequently asked questions
