How the Running Pace Calculator works
Enter the distance you ran and your time in hours, minutes and seconds.
Pace is time divided by distance.
The calculator shows pace per kilometre and per mile, and average speed.
The formula
pace = time ÷ distancespeed = distance ÷ time
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Distance | 5 |
|---|---|
| Distance unit | Kilometres |
| Hours | 0 |
| Minutes | 25 |
| Seconds | 0 |
- 5 km in 25:00 is 1,500 seconds.
- Pace = 1,500 ÷ 5 = 300 s per km, or 5:00 per km.
- Per mile that is 8:03, an average speed of 12.0 km/h.
Result:
| Pace per km (min:sec) | 5:00 |

| Pace per mile (min:sec) | 8:03 |
| Speed (km/h) | 12.00 |
| Speed (mph) | 7.46 |
