How the Raw Dog Food Calculator (Daily Amount by Body Weight) works
Raw feeding guides commonly size meals as a percentage of body weight, often 2% to 3% a day for adult dogs. The comparison output checks the calories against the AAHA estimate for a neutered adult (1.5 × RER).
The US FDA and veterinary associations warn that raw diets can carry Salmonella and Listeria, a risk for pets and people. A balanced diet needs the right mix of muscle, organ, bone and supplements; ask a veterinary nutritionist.
The formula
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Dog's weight (kg, adult: ideal weight) | 20 |
|---|---|
| Daily amount (% of body weight) | 2.5 % |
| Meals per day | 2 |
| Food calories per kg (if known) | 1500 |
- A 20 kg dog at 2.5% needs 500 g a day, 250 g per meal.
- That is 3.50 kg a week and about 750 kcal a day.

| Raw food per day (g) | 500 |
|---|---|
| Per meal (g) | 250 |
