How the Easter Date Calculator (Western and Orthodox) works
Western churches celebrate Easter on the first Sunday after the ecclesiastical full moon on or after 21 March. The calculation (the computus) uses tables of the Moon’s cycle rather than the real Moon; this calculator uses the well-known anonymous Gregorian algorithm.
Orthodox churches use the Julian calendar computus. Its date is converted to the Gregorian calendar by adding the 13-day difference that applies from 1900 to 2099 (the general formula is used for other years).
