How the Cricket Projected Score Calculator works
Each projection adds the chosen rate multiplied by the overs remaining to the current score. Broadcasters show the same thing to set expectations.
Real innings rarely follow one rate: wickets slow scoring and the final overs usually speed it up, so read projections as a range, not a forecast.
The formula
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Current score | 95 |
|---|---|
| Overs completed | 12 |
| Extra balls | 0 |
| Innings length | 20 overs |
| Custom rate for the rest (runs per over) | 10 |
- Current rate 95 ÷ 12 = 7.92; 8 overs remain.
- At the current rate the total would be 158; at 10 per over, 175.
Result:
| At the current rate | 158 |
|---|---|
| At 8 per over | 159 |
| At 10 per over | 175 |
| At 12 per over | 191 |
| At your custom rate | 175 |
| Current run rate | 7.92 |
Frequently asked questions
Why does the projection change so much early on?
Early in an innings a few big overs change the current rate a lot, and there are many overs left to multiply it by.
