How the Nth Weekday of the Month Calculator (Holiday Dates) works

Find the first day of the month and its weekday, then move forward to the first occurrence of the weekday you want; each later occurrence is 7 days on. For the last occurrence, start from the month’s last day and move back.

Many holidays are defined this way: US Thanksgiving (4th Thursday of November), Memorial Day (last Monday of May), Labor Day (1st Monday of September) and UK bank holidays.

The formula

First = day 1 + ((weekday − weekday of day 1) mod 7); nth = first + 7(n − 1)
