Cost per Wear Calculator (Clothes and Shoes) by TheCalcTools
How the Cost per Wear Calculator (Clothes and Shoes) works
Cost per wear = (price + upkeep) ÷ number of times you use it. A pricier item that lasts several times longer can be cheaper per use.
Be honest about how often you will really use something; unworn bargains have an infinite cost per wear.
The formula
Cost per wear = (price + upkeep) ÷ uses
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Price | $180 |
|---|---|
| Uses per week | 3 |
| Years it lasts | 4 |
| Upkeep per year (repairs, cleaning) | $20 |
| Cheaper alternative price | $50 |
| Years the cheaper one lasts | 1 |
- A 180 jacket worn 3 times a week for 4 years: $0.42 per wear.
- A 50 jacket lasting 1 year: $0.45 per wear. The more expensive item is better value.
Result:
| Cost per wear | $0.42 |
|---|---|
| Cheaper item's cost per wear | $0.45 |
| Total wears | 624 |
| Better value | The more expensive item |
