How the Recipe Scaling Calculator works

Enter the servings in the original recipe and the servings you want.

Enter up to four ingredient amounts in any units.

Every amount is multiplied by the same scale factor.

The formula

scale factor = desired servings ÷ original servingsnew amount = old amount × factor

Worked example

Using the default values shown in the calculator:

Original servings4
Desired servings10
Ingredient 1 amount250
Ingredient 2 amount2
Ingredient 3 amount0.5
Ingredient 4 amount1.5
  1. Factor = 10 ÷ 4 = 2.50.
  2. 250 becomes 625, 2 becomes 5, 0.5 becomes 1.25 and 1.5 becomes 3.75.

Result:

Scale factor2.500
Ingredient 1625.00
Ingredient 25.00
Ingredient 31.25
Ingredient 43.75

Frequently asked questions

Do all ingredients scale linearly?

Mostly, but not salt, spices, leavening and cooking time. Scale those more cautiously and taste as you go.

What about pan size?

When you change the batch, change the pan so depth stays similar. Otherwise baking times and results change.
