Rowing Split and Watts Calculator (Concept2) by TheCalcTools

How the Rowing Split and Watts Calculator (Concept2) works

Concept2 rowing machines convert pace to power with watts = 2.80 ÷ pace³, where pace is seconds per metre. Because power rises with the cube of speed, shaving a few seconds off your split takes much more power.

Times for longer pieces assume you hold the same split.

The formula

Watts = 2.80 ÷ (split ÷ 500)³Split = 500 × (2.80 ÷ watts)^(1/3)

Worked example

Using the default values shown in the calculator:

Split minutes2
Split seconds0
Body weight80
  1. A 2:00 split is 0.24 s per metre.
  2. Watts = 2.80 ÷ 0.24³ = 203 W. A 2K at this split takes 8.00 minutes.

Result:

Average power203
Watts per kg2.53
2K time (minutes)8.00
5K time (minutes)20.0
10K time (minutes)40.0
