Pool Volume Calculator by TheCalcTools

How the Pool Volume Calculator works

Choose the pool shape and enter its dimensions.

Volume is surface area × average depth.

One cubic foot holds about 7.48 US gallons.

The formula

Rectangular: L × W × DRound: π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × D

Worked example

Using the default values shown in the calculator:

ShapeRectangular
Length or diameter (ft)32
Width (ft, rectangular only)16
Average depth (ft)5
  1. 32 × 16 × 5 = 2,560 cu ft.
  2. That is 19,150 US gallons or 72,491 liters; filling at 10 gal/min takes 31.9 hours.

Result:

Volume (cu ft)2,560
US gallons19,150
Liters72,491
Time to fill at 10 gal/min (hours)31.9

Frequently asked questions

How do I find average depth?

For a pool with shallow and deep ends, average them: (shallow + deep) ÷ 2. Sloped bottoms are an approximation.

Why does volume matter?

Pool chemicals are dosed per gallon, so an accurate volume avoids over- or under-treating the water.
