How the Plant Spacing Calculator (How Many Plants Fit) works
Each plant on a square grid occupies spacing² of ground. On a triangular grid, where alternate rows are offset by half a space, each plant needs spacing² × √3/2, fitting about 15% more plants at the same distance.
Seed packets give the in-row spacing; use it for both directions in a block planting. Leave paths for access.
