Creatinine Clearance Calculator (Cockcroft–Gault) by TheCalcTools
How the Creatinine Clearance Calculator (Cockcroft–Gault) works
Enter age, weight, sex and serum creatinine in mg/dL.
The Cockcroft–Gault equation estimates clearance from these four values.
The result is multiplied by 0.85 for women.
The formula
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Sex | Male |
|---|---|
| Age (years) | 60 |
| Weight (kg) | 80 |
| Serum creatinine (mg/dL) | 1 |
- (140 − 60) × 80 ÷ (72 × 1.0) = 88.9 mL/min for a man.
- 1.0 mg/dL equals 88 µmol/L.
Result:
| Creatinine clearance (mL/min) | 88.9 |
|---|---|
| Creatinine in µmol/L | 88 |
Frequently asked questions
Is this a diagnosis?
No. Interpretation depends on the clinical context and the lab. Dosing and diagnosis must be done by a qualified clinician.
What about eGFR?
eGFR equations such as CKD-EPI are now more commonly used to stage kidney disease, while Cockcroft–Gault is often used for drug dosing. See the eGFR calculator.
