How the Alcohol Units Calculator works

The calculator also converts to US standard drinks (14 g) and calories (7 kcal per gram of alcohol).
The formula
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Volume (ml) | 568 |
|---|---|
| Strength (ABV %) | 5 |
| Number of drinks | 1 |
- A pint (568 ml) of 5% beer: 568 × 5 ÷ 1,000 = 2.84 UK units.
- That is 22.4 g of alcohol, or 1.60 US standard drinks.
- The alcohol provides about 157 kcal.
Result:
| UK units | 2.84 |
|---|---|
| US standard drinks (14 g) | 1.60 |
| Pure alcohol (g) | 22.4 |
| Calories from alcohol | 157 |
