BPM to Milliseconds Calculator (Delay and Reverb Times) by TheCalcTools
How the BPM to Milliseconds Calculator (Delay and Reverb Times) works
One beat (a quarter note in most time signatures) lasts 60,000 ÷ BPM milliseconds. Halve it for eighths, double it for halves. Dotted notes are 1.5 times as long and triplets two-thirds.
Setting delays to note values makes echoes sit in time with the music.
The formula
Quarter note (ms) = 60,000 ÷ BPM
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Tempo (BPM) | 120 |
|---|
- At 120 BPM a quarter note is 500.00 ms and a dotted eighth 375.00 ms.
Result:
| Quarter note (ms) | 500.00 |
|---|---|
| Eighth note (ms) | 250.00 |
| Sixteenth note (ms) | 125.00 |
| Half note (ms) | 1,000.00 |
| Whole note / one bar of 4/4 (ms) | 2,000.00 |
| Dotted quarter (ms) | 750.00 |
| Dotted eighth (ms) | 375.00 |
| Quarter-note triplet (ms) | 333.33 |
| Eighth-note triplet (ms) | 166.67 |
| Quarter-note rate (Hz) | 2.000 |
