Capacitor Code Calculator (104 to nF) by TheCalcTools
How the Capacitor Code Calculator (104 to nF) works
The first two digits are the significant figures and the third is the number of zeros to add, in picofarads: 104 = 10 followed by four zeros = 100,000 pF = 100 nF = 0.1 µF.
By the EIA convention a third digit of 8 means × 0.01 and 9 means × 0.1. A letter after the code gives the tolerance (J = ±5%, K = ±10%, M = ±20%).
The formula
C (pF) = first two digits × 10^(third digit)
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Capacitor code (three digits) | 104 |
|---|---|
| Tolerance letter (if any) | None |
- 104 = 10 × 10⁴ pF = 100.0000 nF = 0.100000 µF.
Result:
| Capacitance (pF) | 100,000.00 |
|---|---|
| In nanofarads (nF) | 100.0000 |
| In microfarads (µF) | 0.100000 |
| Tolerance range (pF) | — |
