How the Cloud Storage Cost Calculator (Object Storage) works
Object storage bills three things: capacity (GB-months), requests (per 1,000) and data transferred out to the internet. The defaults are example prices only; enter your provider’s current prices for your region and storage class.
Egress often dominates for busy public content; a CDN or a provider with free egress can cut it. Infrequent-access and archive classes lower storage cost but add retrieval fees.
The formula
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Data stored (GB) | 5000 |
|---|---|
| Price per GB-month | $0.023 |
| Write requests per month (thousands) | 500 |
| Price per 1,000 write requests | $0.005 |
| Read requests per month (thousands) | 5000 |
| Price per 1,000 read requests | $0.0004 |
| Data transferred out (GB) | 800 |
| Price per GB transferred out | $0.09 |
- 5 TB stored, 5.5 million requests and 800 GB out: $191.50 a month with these example prices.
Result:
| Monthly cost | $191.50 |
|---|---|
| Yearly cost | $2,298 |
| Storage | $115.00 |
| Requests | $4.50 |
| Egress | $72.00 |
