Work and Power Calculator by TheCalcTools
How the Work and Power Calculator works
Enter the force, the distance moved, the angle between them and the time.
Only the part of the force along the motion does work.
Power is work divided by time.
The formula
W = F × d × cos θP = W ÷ t
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Force (N) | 50 |
|---|---|
| Distance (m) | 10 |
| Angle between force and motion (°) | 0 |
| Time (s) | 5 |
- W = 50 × 10 × cos 0° = 500 J.
- P = 500 ÷ 5 = 100 W.
Result:
| Work (J) | 500.00 |
|---|---|
| Power (W) | 100.00 |
| Power (hp) | 0.1341 |
Frequently asked questions
When is the work zero?
When the force is perpendicular to the motion (θ = 90°), like a centripetal force or carrying a bag horizontally.
What is a watt?
One joule per second.
