How the Mean Arterial Pressure Calculator works
Enter the systolic and diastolic pressure from a blood pressure reading.
MAP weights the diastolic pressure double, since the heart spends about two thirds of the cycle in diastole.
Pulse pressure is the difference between the two.
The formula
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Systolic (mmHg) | 120 |
|---|---|
| Diastolic (mmHg) | 80 |
- MAP = (120 + 2 × 80) ÷ 3 = 93.3 mmHg.
- Pulse pressure = 120 − 80 = 40 mmHg.
Result:
| MAP (mmHg) | 93.3 |
|---|---|
| Pulse pressure (mmHg) | 40 |
