Plywood and OSB Sheet Calculator by TheCalcTools
How the Plywood and OSB Sheet Calculator works
Sheets = area × (1 + waste) ÷ sheet area. Roofs and floors with many cuts, hips or openings may need 15% or more waste.
Stagger sheet joints and follow the span rating stamped on the panel for the joist or rafter spacing.
The formula
Sheets = ⌈area × (1 + waste) ÷ sheet area⌉
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Length (ft) | 24 |
|---|---|
| Width (ft) | 16 |
| Sheet size | 4 × 8 ft |
| Waste | 10 % |
| Weight per sheet (lb) | 61 |
- 24 × 16 ft = 384 sq ft: 14 sheets of 4 × 8 with 10% waste.
Result:
| Sheets needed | 14 |
|---|---|
| Area (sq ft) | 384 |
| Total weight (lb) | 854 |
| Total weight (kg) | 387 |
