EIRP and ERP Calculator by TheCalcTools
How the EIRP and ERP Calculator works
Enter the transmitter output power and the total loss before the antenna.
Add the antenna gain in dBi to get EIRP.
ERP refers to a half-wave dipole, which has 2.15 dBi gain, so ERP = EIRP − 2.15 dB.
The formula
EIRP = P_tx − L + G_dBiERP = EIRP − 2.15 dB
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Transmitter power (dBm) | 46 dBm |
|---|---|
| Cable, connector and combiner loss (dB) | 3 |
| Antenna gain (dBi) | 17.5 |
- EIRP = 46 − 3 + 17.5 = 60.5 dBm = 1,122.0 W.
- ERP = 58.4 dBm; antenna gain is 15.35 dBd.
Result:
| EIRP (dBm) | 60.5 |
|---|---|
| EIRP (W) | 1,122.0 |
| ERP (dBm) | 58.4 |
| Antenna gain (dBd) | 15.35 |
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between dBi and dBd?
dBi is relative to an isotropic radiator; dBd is relative to a half-wave dipole. dBi = dBd + 2.15.
Does EIRP include the radiation pattern?
It is the peak value in the main-beam direction.
