Data Rate Converter (Mbps, MB/s, Gbps) by TheCalcTools
How the Data Rate Converter (Mbps, MB/s, Gbps) works
Enter a value and pick its unit.
The calculator converts it to bits per second.
Dividing by each unit’s size gives the other values. One byte is 8 bits.
The formula
MB/s = Mbit/s ÷ 81 Gbit/s = 1,000 Mbit/s (decimal prefixes)
Worked example
Using the default values shown in the calculator:
| Value | 100 |
|---|---|
| From | Mbit/s |
- 100 Mbit/s = 100,000 kbit/s.
- Dividing by 8 gives 12.50 MB/s.
- In gigabits that is 0.1000 Gbit/s.
Result:
| kbit/s | 100,000.00 |
|---|---|
| Mbit/s | 100.00 |
| Gbit/s | 0.1000 |
| kB/s | 12,500.00 |
| MB/s | 12.50 |
| GB/s | 0.0125 |
Frequently asked questions
Is Mbps the same as MBps?
No. Mbps (or Mbit/s) is megabits per second, while MB/s is megabytes per second. A byte has 8 bits, so 100 Mbps is 12.5 MB/s.
Do these use 1000 or 1024?
Network speeds use decimal (1000-based) prefixes, which is what this calculator uses.
