Frequently Asked Questions

How does the business hours indicator work?

The business hours indicator shows 🟢 Business Hours (green) when the local time is between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM (9-17) in that city. This represents typical work hours for most businesses. When outside these hours, it shows 🔴 Outside Hours (red). This helps avoid calling colleagues or clients outside their workday.

What does the day indicator (Today/Tomorrow/Yesterday) mean?

The day indicator compares the date in each city to your home timezone date:
Today: Same calendar day as your home timezone
Tomorrow: The city is one day ahead (e.g., you’re in NYC on Monday, Tokyo is Tuesday)
Yesterday: The city is one day behind (e.g., you’re in Sydney on Tuesday, Los Angeles is Monday)
This is crucial for international scheduling across the International Date Line.

How accurate is the time?

The World Clock Commander uses your computer’s system clock and JavaScript’s toLocaleString() with IANA timezone names (e.g., “America/New_York”). It’s accurate as long as your computer’s time and timezone settings are correct.

What cities are available?

24+ major global cities across all continents:
North America: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Toronto, Mexico City, Honolulu, Anchorage, Phoenix
South America: São Paulo
Europe: London, Paris, Berlin, Moscow
Asia: Tokyo, Mumbai, Singapore, Shanghai, Seoul, Bangkok, Jakarta, Dubai
Oceania: Sydney
Africa: Cairo, Johannesburg
Middle East: Dubai, Tel Aviv

Can I add cities not in the list?

Currently, the calculator includes 24+ pre-defined cities. To add other timezones, you’d need to modify the popularCities array in the code. Future updates may include a custom timezone input.

Do I need an internet connection?

The world clock works offline after the page loads. It uses your device’s local clock and timezone database (built into modern browsers). No API calls are required — all timezone conversions happen locally in JavaScript.
